Richard Thomas Davis Shelter Painting

RICHARD THOMAS DAVIS

Richard Thomas Davis (b. 1947) is a photorealist, contemporary artist living in Nova Scotia. He was born in Middletown, New York and studied a year at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, though he is otherwise self-taught. In 2011, he was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and has exhibited internationally for over 40 years.

Davis is best known for his balanced compositions of perfectly rendered everyday scenes. He scrupulously captures views, whether of landscape, cityscape, human-scape or object-scape, caught in a moment of stillness. His paintings offer modalities of a contemporary devotion—to objects, faces, cars, buildings and the residual landscape.  His work is part of many other notable public and private collections, such as the Brooklyn Museum, and the Vancouver Art Gallery..
