Wilf Perreault Slushy Day Painting

WILF PERREAULT

Wilf Perreault (b. 1947) is a Canadian painter, best known for his urban back alley scenes. Growing up in Saskatoon, he was privately trained by acclaimed Austrian-born artist, Ernest Lindner. He studied at University of Saskatchewan under the instruction of Otto Rogers and Bill Epp, though he found his interest in representational painting conflicted with the New York-style abstraction which was prevalent in Saskatchewan at that time.

After earning his Bachelor of Fine Art in 1970, and Bachelor of Education in 1971, Perreault relocated to Regina to teach high school art. Painting the familiar landscape in and around the city of Regina where he has lived and worked since 1970, his acrylic, oil and watercolour paintings lend a new understanding and beauty to the commonplace.

In 1989, Perreault was chosen to be one of five artists to represent Canada in Les Jeux de la Francophonie in Morocco, where he won the Silver Medal. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2003. The Mackenzie Art Gallery honored him with a major exhibition in 2014. His work can be found in many public, private and corporate collections throughout North America and abroad, including the collections of: Mackenzie Art Gallery, Regina; Pemberton Houston, Willoughby; Bank of Montreal; The Mercantile Bank; Goldman Sachs and Co., New York; Osler Hoskins, Toronto; Ernst & Young; Touche Ross & Co.; Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa; Saskatchewan Arts Board; Petro-Canada Inc.; Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan; Dunlop Art Gallery, Regina; Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon; and the Edmonton Art Gallery, Alberta.
