Ronald S. Parker Susanne Kennedy Painting

RONALD S. PARKER

Ronald Parker (b. 1942) is a contemporary Canadian artist best known for his realistic wildlife scenes and portraiture. Inspired by a Fenwick Lansdowne exhibit, Parker tried painting wildlife himself. The success of his first efforts prompted him to quit his job at a lumberyard and he began to paint full-time

His wildlife paintings have been featured in national and international magazines, as well as three books: From the Wild published by Somerset, Voices from the Wild and Rocky Mountain Wildlife, both published by Raincoast Books. He designed a collectors set of coins for Royal Canadian Mint, and received a feature piece in International Artist Magazine (Issue 22). His subjects later shifted towards more figurative scenes, though his portraiture maintained the same realism with a perfectionist level of detail.

In 2003, he shifted from wildlife scenes to contemporary landscapes an essentialist style. This work represented a marked change from the detailed, representational paintings he had been known for. The landscapes were designed from an abstract view and concentrated on form, rhythm and colour with little detail. He held several very successful one-man shows of this work during that period. He currently living on Vancouver Island, and continues to work as a full-time artist.
